Before you begin
When disassembling, reassembling, or installing a new part, it's always a good idea to take photos before you begin. Focus on fasteners, wire placements, and part positions. This will make it easier for you to ensure you are reassembling everything in the right place after you complete the repair.
To replace the Control Board:
- To start, loosen and remove the screws that secure the front face of the grill and set aside. Typically, there will be one screw, but there could be an extra screw inside the hopper that holds the front face in place.
- Once all the screws are removed, carefully pull the bottom of the base plate forward until the bottom comes unseated. Then, push up to clear the top bracket that holds the face plate to the inside of the grill.
- Disconnect the button from the control board using the quick connection.
- Carefully depress the small tabs that hold the control board to the front face. You can use a flat-head screwdriver to depress these tabs.
- Disconnect all the wires using the quick disconnect feature. There are two options to remove the wires.
- You can pull them through a hole inside the grill, or
- use the side access panel.
- Replace the control board with the new one. Push the new board until the tabs click into place.
- Attach all the wires using the quick disconnect feature.
- Reattach the button to the control board.
- Lastly, securely reattach the front face plate using all of the screws that were previously removed in step one.
To replace the Igniter Module:
- On the bottom right you'll find a square back plate with 4 screws around the edges and 2 in the middle. Remove the 6 screws and set them aside.
- To disconnect the igniter, unplug the quick disconnect. You will notice two wires, one black and one white, connected by a white plastic rectangle.
- Remove the two screws that connect the module to the wire junction box. The wire junction box is a white box with 5 screws on the top and an orange wire coming out of it.
- Remove the two screws in the middle of the plate to release the igniter. Set the screws aside and lift out the faulty igniter.
- Replace the faulty igniter module with the new one and secure it with the 2 screws.
- Reattach the wires using the quick disconnect. This may be a bit difficult, but you can use a pair of pliers to help. Just make sure to pinch at the plastic part and not the actual wire itself.
- Finally, replace the metal back cover and you're all set.
To replace the Auger Fan:
- Start by removing the hopper. This can be done by unscrewing the 3 screws on the sides, 1 screw at the back under the lip, 1 screw at the front of the hopper towards the front of the grill, and finally 2 screws located at the bottom of the hopper by the auger. In total, 7 screws need to be removed and set aside.
- After removing the hopper, you will be able to locate the fan. To remove the fan, unscrew the 4 screws located in the corners of the fan housing. It's important to note that there isn't much space for a traditional screwdriver to work in this area. One solution is to use a Phillips head Allen key or hold a Phillips bit with a pair of pliers. This will make it easier to remove the screws and take out the fan.
- After removing the fan, locate the wires and disconnect the necessary wire quick disconnect. Make sure to disconnect the Black, Yellow, Blue, and Red wires.
- Once the wires are disconnected, attach the new fan to the side of the auger shaft. Then, connect the wires using the wire quick connect feature.
- After the fan is attached and the wiring connected, make sure to securely reattach the hopper to its original position to ensure the grill functions properly and all components are in place.
To replace the RTD sensor:
- Start by removing the hopper. This can be done by unscrewing the 3 screws on the sides, 1 screw at the back under the lip, 1 screw at the front of the hopper towards the front of the grill, and finally 2 screws located at the bottom of the hopper by the auger. In total, 7 screws need to be removed and set aside.
- After removing the hopper, you'll find the RTD sensor on the left side of the grill's cooking chamber. The RTD sensor is a small silver rod. Remove the screw that secures the RTD sensor in place and set it aside.
- After removing the screw, locate the wire connected to the RTD sensor and disconnect it using the quick connect feature. Depress the pin and pull to disconnect the wire.
- Thread the wire of the new RTD sensor through the designated hole and securely connect it to the two-pin connector. It is important to note that this is the same wire that was disconnected in step 3 of the replacement process.
- Reattach the RTD sensor to the bracket and secure the bracket in place.
- Finally, resecure the hopper by screwing it back into position. Once completed, your grill will be ready to go!
To replace the Battery Housing:
- Start by removing the hopper. This can be done by unscrewing the 3 screws on the sides, 1 screw at the back under the lip, 1 screw at the front of the hopper towards the front of the grill, and finally 2 screws located at the bottom of the hopper by the auger. In total, 7 screws need to be removed and set aside.
- Once the hopper is removed, you will be able to reach the battery housing. Take out the 4 screws that secure the battery housing to the side wall.
- Next, disconnect the cables from the internal board and securely attach them to the replacement battery housing. It is important to ensure that each cable is connected properly to avoid any issues.
- When all the cables are attached, reattach the battery housing to the side wall using the 4 screws that were previously removed.
- Finally, attach the hopper back to its original position and secure it using the 7 screws that were previously removed in Step 1. Once you have securely fastened everything in place, your grill is now ready to use!
